Fall Has Arrived in Sixth Grade

How did we reach October so quickly?  Report cards, parent conferences, fall break...where has the time gone?  We have been so busy in sixth grade.  Time really does fly when you are having fun.  Besides a lot of learning, just look at all that has been going on while your child was at school.

One of our favorite things to do with our buddies is read.  At this time of year, we read to our buddies.  It won't be long before they are reading to us.  The kindergarten selected their favorite books in their classroom and had their buddy read the book to them.  The sound of all those children reading, asking questions, and giggling with their buddies was a great way to start the fall.

Grandparent's Day was a great time for the sixth graders.  The Grandparent's Quilt was filled with so many happy memories of times our sixth graders have shared with their grandparents.  Thank you to all of the grandparents who have played such an important role in the lives of their grandchildren and have set such an amazing example.

The Pet Blessing is always a day we look forward to in sixth grade.  Our students pray each day together, and those prayers are often for their pets.  This is a very special day to recognize how much our pets mean to us and to have them receive a very special blessing.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief Day was a blast!!!  We began the day with our promenade through the forum where the sixth graders announced which character from the book they were portraying and why they chose the character.

Next, the classes broke into groups to present skits of commercials selling the book.  I'm not sure the commercials would have convinced me to buy the book, but they were sure good for a laugh.

Then, the class held the modern day Greek Olympics with a relay race and an egg toss.

The sixth graders were given a quest to uncover facts about Solomon's Temple, all you can eat pizza and desserts was our Camp Half-blood Feast, and we ended the day by watching The Lightning Thief.  It was a great day!!!
